Shotgun Shout-Out and XS Magazine Extension

Here’s a shotgun shout-out. Installation and troubleshooting the XS Sights Remington 870 +2 Magazine Extension along with an overview of common shotgun problems.

I was recently tasked with adding a new XS Sights (XSSights.com, 888/744-4880) Remington 870 +2 Magazine Extension. This unit is 6061 aluminum and hard coat anodized part that adds capacity to a Remington 870 pump action shotgun. While the shotgun is a powerful shoulder fired weapon and very effective, some feel that the standard tube magazine capacity is cutting it a little short during a social engagement. The XS unit increases that by two shotshells, a nice improvement that doesn’t add unnecessary weight or bulk. Best of all, this extension is reliable and useful. Let’s have a look at how I added one to a well-used Remington 870.

A big thanks to XS Sights for clearly written instructions, which you should read through before starting. Start by breaking the gun down. Begin by unloading the firearm, double checking there is no ammunition in the firearm. Remove the magazine cap, the barrel, and the magazine retention plug by pushing it in and turning a quarter turn in either direction. When you releasing pressure, the plug should slide up and out of the magazine tube. Remove the magazine spring and follower.
